Poly-L-lactic acid, placed over a series

Sculptra in Mansfield, TX

An FDA-approved poly-L-lactic acid injectable for facial wrinkles and cheek-area fine lines, with a change that develops gradually over several weeks.

What it is

Sculptra is an injectable implant made of microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), supplied as a powder that is mixed with sterile water before use. Its FDA labeling covers shallow to deep nasolabial fold contour deficiencies and other facial wrinkles, plus fine lines and wrinkles in the cheek region. The change is not instant: the labeling describes the treatment effect developing gradually over several weeks after each injection.

Who it’s for

  • You have facial wrinkles or folds, such as the creases from nose to mouth, or fine lines across the cheeks
  • You are comfortable with a change that appears over weeks rather than by the end of the visit
  • You have no history of keloids or raised scarring, and no history of severe allergies, both of which rule Sculptra out

Our approach

A consultation before anything else

Consultations are free, and they are where your goals and anatomy are assessed and the details of a plan are tailored to you.

Treatment in a series

Sculptra is typically placed over more than one visit; in the FDA clinical studies, people received up to four sessions spaced weeks apart.

A measured amount each visit

The labeling warns against overfilling, because the effect keeps developing for several weeks after each session.

Typical downtime

Redness, swelling, or bruising can show in the treated area right after a session. If there are no complications, make-up can usually go on a few hours later.

Risks and side effects

  • Common after a session: swelling, tenderness, redness, pain, and bruising where it was injected
  • Small bumps (papules or nodules) under the skin, which can appear days to months later; they are often felt rather than seen, and some need treatment
  • Rare but serious: product entering a blood vessel, which can cause temporary or permanent vision loss including blindness, stroke, or death of skin tissue — changes in vision or unusual pain need urgent care
  • Infection, as with any injection procedure, and a flare of cold sores in people prone to them
  • Not used for anyone allergic to its components, with a history of severe allergies, or prone to keloid or raised scars; if lidocaine is mixed in, not for people allergic to lidocaine or similar numbing agents

Aftercare

  • A cloth-wrapped ice pack on the treated area helps with swelling and bruising
  • Massage the area for five minutes, five times a day, for five days, as the labeling directs
  • Keep the area out of strong sun, tanning lamps, and extreme heat or cold until any swelling and redness has settled

Individual results vary.

Common questions

Sculptra FAQs

How many Sculptra sessions will I need?

There is no single number. FDA clinical studies used up to four sessions, a few weeks apart, and how many suit you is worked out at your consultation.

When will I see results from Sculptra?

Not on the day. Sculptra works gradually, so any change builds over the weeks after each session rather than appearing at the end of the appointment.

Is there downtime after Sculptra?

In the labeling, redness, swelling, or bruising typically settled within hours to about a week, and a deeper bruise could take up to about two weeks. There is also a short at-home massage routine for the first five days.

What are the side effects of Sculptra?

Swelling, tenderness, redness, pain, and bruising are the common ones. Bumps under the skin can develop later, and serious complications from injection into a blood vessel are rare. All of this is reviewed with you before treatment.

Who should not get Sculptra?

People with an allergy to any of its ingredients, a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis, or a tendency to form keloids or raised scars should not have it.

How long does Sculptra last?

That varies from person to person, and no particular duration is promised. We go over what to expect for your face at the consultation.

How much does Sculptra cost in Mansfield?

Sculptra is $850 per vial at 4ME Aesthetics. Every standard price is listed on the Services & Pricing page.
